January 3rd, 2010 – January 31st, 2010

All can enjoy a fantabulous show of fire spinners, fire words and the hottest pros from our own ski and snowboard school, taking BIG air through rings of fire.  Worth a trip to Whistler before the Olympics.

Whistler Deep Winter Photo Challenge
January 7th, 2010

Enjoy the grassroots celebration of winter by putting together a slideshow entry. Last year’s winner, Jordan Manley, will be back to defend his title. Also on the roster are top ski and snowboard photographers Paul Morrison, Ashley Barker and Nicholas Teichrob. Fairmont Chateau Whistler, 7:00 pm.

Whistler Winter Purina Incredible Dog Challenge
January 8th, 2010 to January 9th, 2010

Showcasing some of the best performance dogs in the world, the Winter Purina Incredible Dog Challenge features competitions in Avalanche Rescue, Ski Joring, Agility, Head-to-Head 60-Weave Pole Racing and Freestyle Flying Disc. Local dogs and owners can participate in the fun Paw-and-Pole exhibition competition, which includes fastest small dog and fastest large dog awards, a Best Costume award, in addition to a “Look-Alike” contest to see who most resembles their dog. All events are open to the public.

Whistler NiX Theatre of Snow and Ice
January 22nd, 2010 to February 27th, 2010

Bundle up at Lost Lake and enter Canada’s first theatre of snow and ice. This theatrical adventure, a BC premiere, follows two survivors and an arsonist through the fireworks at the end of the world. NiX is a frozen fantasy, complete with a flaming tuba, a snowman death scene and an explosive love story that will melt the coldest of hearts. Show starts at 7:30 pm. Whistler Callaghan Classic Group Cross-Country Ski
January 30th, 2010

For all of you classic riders, this is the 2nd event in Callaghan Country’s annual Benchmark Series.  To participate, ski to Callaghan Lodge and benchmark your time. Enjoy a free BBQ and picnic when you arrive. The base opens at 8:30 am and the group ski starts at 9:00 am.

Toonie Rides
April 30–September 24, 2009
Join the locals every Thursday for a $2 race sponsored by Whistler businesses and organizations. Racers get food and fresh bevvies at the end of every ride. Sign in is at 5:30 pm and the race begins at 6:30 pm. Participants must be WORCA (Whistler Off Road Cycling Association) members to compete.

Phat Wednesdays Freeride Series
mid June to end of August
Head to the Whistler Mountain Bike Park every second Wednesday for a downhill race similar to the Toonie Rides. Each race takes place on a different trail or course so you never know what you’re going to get. All ages and skill levels welcome. Après at the GLC. Sign in at 5:00 pm.

Whistler Sliding Centre Summer Opening
June 4, 2009
The summer tour program begins come explore this exciting 2010 Olympic Winter Games venue. Open Thursday to Monday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

PEAK 2 PEAK Alpine Experience

If hiking, biking or exploring doesn’t tire them out, take your family for a ride at the Adventure Zone located at the base of Blackcomb. It’s huge fun for both big and little folk, and only minutes from the base of Whistler Mountain. Whistler International All Star Hockey Tournament

The Whistler International All Star Hockey Tournament is an elite youth tournament designed to bring together hockey players with a high level of commitment to their sport. Whistler has hosted this event, which is known as one of the best summer hockey competitions in North America, at Meadow Park Sports Centre since 1992.

The Whistler Farmer’s Market returns to the pedestrian streets of the Upper Village (near the Fairmont Chateau Whistler) every Sunday this summer, featuring local produce from the Pemberton Valley and beyond, tasty artisan foods, live cooking demos by Whistler Chefs and live music. Women’s Nights at Whistler Mountain Bike Park

Comfortably Numb Trail Running Race
June 27, 2009
This second race in the 2009 Sea 2 Sky Trail Running Series includes six runs through some of the world’s most scenic, single-track mountain trails. Competitors follow a winding 25 km trail through moss-covered forest, across elevated bridges and past spectacular views. Reaching an elevation of over 1,000 metres and with most of the descent and tricky sections near the finish this race is not for the faint hearted. To register visit www.comfortablynumb.ca.

Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening, from June 27 until September 7, Whistler Blackcomb hosts an incredible alpine dining experience at the Roundhouse Lodge on Whistler Mountain. Simply ride up on the Gondola and enjoy mouth-watering food while taking in famous Whistler views at 4,000 ft. above the Village. Dirt Series Women Only Mountain Bike Camp
June 28–29, 2009
The Dirt Series women only bike camp is back for another weekend of rough riding and big air. Skills improvement for all levels and a chance to hang with the girls guarantees a great time. April 2009 – Things To Do in Whistler

April 2009 – The last chance this season to Ski or Snowboard in Whistler

Not to worry though, Blackcomb Mountain remains open until May 18th, then Whistler opens again on May 19th…

I’m just dropping in to let you all know that there’s still lots of fun to be had in Whistler.  Actually there’s been so much snow as of late, the skiing is better than earlier in the season.  If you can make it to Whistler, try to do so before April 26th, you’ll have the pleasure of skiing both Mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb, with the least crowds.

The Telus Ski and Snowboard Festival is on starting April 17th and lasts until the 26th.  This is a staple celebration in Whistler, the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival is a 10 day and night showcases of the latest in the skiing and snowboarding World, where even the arts events are packed full of adrenaline. The dynamic combination of Canada’s largest free outdoor concert series with spectacular action sports showdowns, lifestyle fashion, photography, film, the best spring snow conditions and nightlife, this even is THE “To Do” in Whistler.  A celebration of everything that’s core for the old and the new mountain culture.

Or you could just take it easy in the Village; the sun is out, the patios are open, I think even Golfing has started…or maybe not…play the video below…

March has to be the best skiing month for Whistler.  I’ve lived here for many years, too many to mention, and March has been consistently the best skiing/snowboarding month in Whistler.  With all the school breaks, the month of March is also the busiest, which makes Whistler come alive, IMHO.

Cinema Politica

Every Monday, LUNA and the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre present a film series highlighting important documentary films. The third Monday of each month will feature a First Nations film and speaker. Doors open at 6:30 pm and screenings start at 7:00 pm. Admission is by donation.

IPC Cross-Country Skiing and Biathlon World Cup Final 
March 5–8, 2009 
Paralympic athletes test their mettle at Whistler Olympic Park. This extremely competitive event is a great precursor to the 2010 Paralympic Games.

IPC Alpine Skiing World Cup Finals 
March 11–14, 2009 
See the world’s top Paralympic alpine skiers in their last competition of the season. About 100 athletes from 16 countries compete in downhill, super-G, super-combined, giant slalom and slalom races in three different classes: standing, sitting and visually impaired.

IBU Biathlon World Cup 
March 11–15, 2009 
A European favourite, biathlon combines cross-country skiing with rifle target shooting. This event takes place at Whistler Olympic Park and features the top athletes in the sport vying for World Cup gold.

So you can’t get up to Whistler by regular means this beautiful long weekend due to the rock slide, but there’s still time to have fun and enjoy Whistler this summer.   Here is a list of events to check out for the rest of August:

Whistler Highway Closed July 31st Until August 4th, 2008

For those of you that have travel plans to Whistler this weekend, you may want to reconsider.
There has been a major rock slide just shy of Squamish, and all traffic both ways is shut down
for the next 5 days.

Whistler Rock Slide

However, if you’re still keen to go to Whistler, consider a couple of different routes, modes
of transportation. You can always slurge and get a helicopter ride, or you can take your time,
take the scenic route around Hope, Lytton, Lilloet and Pemberton.

Alternate Road To Whistler

This will take you significantly longer to get to Whistler, but it is a gorgeous drive, you are going to want to stop, take in the sites and take some pictures. This will take significantly longer, add 4-6 hours, but it will be an adventure.
